OrderGate vs Blockify vs MIDA: which Shopify blocker fits which problem

It depends on what you are blocking. To keep visitors, bots, VPNs or whole countries off the storefront, Blockify and MIDA are built for that and OrderGate is not: it cannot see IP addresses. To stop a specific buyer, by email, phone, name, street, postal area or customer tag, from completing checkout, OrderGate does that on its free plan, while Blockify and MIDA list checkout blocking on their $29.99 and $19 plans.

Two different places to block

A storefront blocker decides who may load your shop, mostly from the visitor's IP address: its country, whether it is a VPN, proxy or Tor exit, whether it behaves like a bot. That is what Blockify and MIDA lead with, and it is something OrderGate cannot do: nothing that runs inside Shopify checkout receives an IP address.

A checkout blocker decides whether a specific buyer may finish an order, from what they type at checkout: email, phone, name, delivery address, and the signed-in customer's tags. That is OrderGate's whole job. The order is refused before it exists, which is what matters for chargebacks, serial refunders and refused cash-on-delivery parcels.

What each lists, as of 18 October 2026

  • Blockify — 4.9 stars from 1,785 reviews, launched 2018. Free: 2 active IP or country blocks and analytics for the first 200 visitors. Premium $9.99/month: 50 rules, automatic VPN, proxy and bot blocking. "Block checkout with conditions", fraud order filters and Flow integration are listed on Enterprise, $29.99/month.
  • MIDA — 4.9 stars from 556 reviews, launched September 2025. Free: 4 IP or country rules and a 300-visitor log. Advanced $9/month: unlimited rules, region, ISP and name blocking, VPN, proxy and Tor blocking. "Block fake orders at checkout" and "Block checkout with conditions" are listed on Unlimited, $19/month.
  • OrderGate — new, with few reviews so far. Free: 5 rules at a time, every rule type, log-only and enforce. Standard $9/month or $86/year: up to 1,500 rules, plus hiding cash on delivery and free shipping for matching buyers.

Where OrderGate is the weaker choice

  • Bots, scrapers and card-testing scripts: these are visitor problems, and IP and behaviour signals catch them better than anything typed at checkout.
  • Blocking a whole country from even browsing: a storefront blocker does that; OrderGate only refuses the order, and for a whole country Shopify's own markets already do.
  • Track record: both have years or hundreds of reviews behind them; OrderGate has neither yet.

Where OrderGate is the stronger choice

  • Blocking a named person: one phone number or email, matched however it is typed, refused inside checkout, on the free plan.
  • Watching before blocking: every rule can run in log-only mode first and report which recent orders it would have stopped.
  • Hiding cash on delivery instead of refusing: risky buyers can still pay upfront.

Using two of them together

They do not overlap much. A store fighting both bots and repeat bad buyers can run a storefront blocker for traffic and OrderGate for checkout. Shopify allows up to 25 checkout validation functions, so a checkout rule from each does not conflict; check each app's own documentation for how it handles the storefront.
